Doch was once macht eine Stadt zu einer „Medienstadt“? Anders als die historisch
gewachsenen Stadtbezeichnungen wie Hansestadt, Hauptstadt, Messestadt
oder Universitätsstadt, ist der Begriff der Medienstadt noch recht neu und
verdeutlicht vor allem den Wettbewerb verschiedener, miteinander
konkurrierender Standorte und wird vielfach zum Stadtmarketing genutzt. Was
eine Medienstadt nun ausmacht lässt sich an dieser Stelle nicht beantworten.
Dazu fehlt eine allgemein anerkannte Definition. Fest jedoch steht, dass Leipzig
als Medienstadt nicht nur propagiert wird, sondern der Mediensektor ein großes
Gewicht auf Leipzigs Gesamtwirtschaft ausübt. Das belegen die five, eight Prozent
mit denen die rund 1700 Unternehmen an der Gesamtwirtschaft Leipzigs
beteiligt sind.2 Gegenstand dieser Arbeit ist die Entstehung eines
Medienclusters in Leipzig und die Frage ob der Leipziger Mediensektor sich
